FLL Robotics Coding Classes for Kids

FIRST® (For Inspiration and Recognition of Science and Technology) is a robotics community that prepares young people for the future. The FIRST® LEGO® League (FLL) introduces science, technology, engineering, and math (STEM) to kids through fun, exciting hands-on learning.

Our courses for FLL Robotics deliver more than Robotics and Coding Skills. They help students build essential life skills, including problem-solving skills, designing solutions, working in teams, communicating ideas, and participating in competitions. Our Explore curriculum is for Kids in grades 2 through 4. Our Challenge curriculum is for Kids in grades 4 through 8.

What is FLL Robotics?

  • FLL = FIRST LEGO League
It’s an international robotics competition for kids (ages 4–16, depending on division and country).

  • Students build and program a robot (using LEGO kits like the LEGO Spike Prime or EV3) to complete challenges on a game board.

  • It’s not just about robots — FLL also emphasizes teamwork, problem-solving, and innovation.

FLL Explore(Ages 6-9)

FIRST LEGO League (FLL) Explore is an introductory STEM program for children aged 6-9 that focuses on research, engineering fundamentals, and teamwork. Teams explore a real-world problem related to a yearly theme, develop a solution, build a LEGO model or robot using the LEGO Education SPIKE Essential platform and learn basics of coding .It's a non-competitive program designed to foster discovery, creativity, and collaboration.

FLL Challenge(Ages 9-16)

FLL challenge is a competitive program that the explore kids move onto once they are 9 years of age.Teams research a real-world problem, design and build an autonomous LEGO robot to complete missions on a competition table, and present their innovative solutions. The program emphasizes the FIRST Core Values of teamwork, collaboration, and critical thinking as students work through the challenge during their season.

Three Main Parts of FLL Challenge

  1. Robot Game

    • Teams design, build, and program a LEGO robot.

    • The robot must complete missions on a themed mat (for example: move blocks, flip levers, push objects).

    • Each mission scores points, and the robot runs autonomously (no remote control!) within a time limit (usually 2.5 minutes).

  2. Innovation Project

    • Every year has a theme (e.g., energy, transport, nature).

    • Teams research a real-world problem related to the theme.

    • They brainstorm, design, and present a creative solution (like an invention, app, or service).

  3. Core Values

    • FLL emphasizes teamwork, inclusion, discovery, innovation, impact, and fun.

    • Teams are judged not only on what they build but also how they work together

Why is FLL Important?

  • Builds STEM skills: coding, engineering, robotics.

  • Encourages creativity and problem-solving.

  • Develops soft skills: teamwork, communication, and presentation.

  • Inspires kids to pursue science, technology, and engineering careers.
